Making a Difference

We know that our people do not show up for work wanting to do a poor job. To the contrary, they want to be successful and part of collaborative professional team in a successful organization. They want to make a difference both at work and in their community.

At Granite, we work hard to support the aspirations of our people. On the Fortune 100 Best Places to Work survey, Granite scored higher than even the top 50 companies on how supported our people feel in really making a difference, both for their customers and their communities.

Two examples of how we support our employees in making a difference are first to give lots of responsibility early in their career, and second, to provide a strong Corporate Social Responsibility orientation to enhance their involvement in worthwhile organizations. In addition we offer the opportunity to collaborate with other good folks who are also looking to make a difference. The opportunities are great.

Our Neighborhood

Our employees are committed to maintaining a quality environment for their family and neighbors to enjoy for generations to come. We do this by maintaining constant attention to our aggregate mining and processing facilities during operation. This practice assures that current environmental standards are met and exceeded. Granite's Environmental Affairs Policy sets forth strong principals that guide us to strive for protection of the environment and our natural resources. Granite spends significant of time, effort, and dollars to make sure that we are good stewards of the land, which provides our living.  Click here to read more about our commitment to a quality neighborhood environment.

Company Match for Contributions to Haiti Relief

Dear Fellow Granite Employees:

As you know, a massive earthquake hit a densely populated area about six miles from Haiti's capital, Port au Prince, on Tuesday. Widely known as one of the western world’s poorest countries, the scope of the devastation and suffering caused by the earthquake is difficult to comprehend.

The death toll in Haiti is presently projected in the tens of thousands, some 200,000 homeless and many more still trapped. Granite will be helping by sending a total of $30,000 to the agencies listed below. In addition, we are encouraging all Granite employees to help with a personal donation that the company will match, dollar for dollar. Our goal is to raise, with your support, an additional $50,000 for the relief operation.

For those who wish to participate, you can make out your tax deductible check to one of the agencies listed below and send it to Sue Maurice in the Watsonville Office / HR (via interoffice mail) no later than January 31, 2010 . If you have already made donations to one of these relief agencies, or to another recognized agency, please let Sue Maurice know as we will match that contribution, as well. Thank you for your generous support.

Bill Dorey
